PARTI Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Bahagian Sukau has categorically refuted reports that more than 2,000 of its members have resigned, dismissing the claim as unfounded, defamatory, and little more than political fantasy.
Emerson Dawang, secretary of PGRS Sukau, stated that internal verification confirmed the actual number of members leaving the party did not exceed ten.
He explained that some individuals mentioned in the alleged exodus were new members who had previously been affiliated with Parti Warisan and later followed former PGRS Sukau Women’s Wing chief Dayang Norhayati Titing in joining Barisan Nasional.
“Dayang Norhayati has long been inactive in party activities at both division and branch levels, and the branches under her leadership are also considered inactive,” Emerson said in a statement on Monday.
He criticised Norhayati’s assertion that 2,000 members had departed as “cheap political provocation,” designed to create the illusion of a crisis within PGRS Sukau. “The reality is far from the claims being made,” he added.
Emerson emphasised that PGRS Sukau firmly rejects the allegations and views any attempt to tarnish the party’s image through false information as a serious matter.
He further highlighted the party’s continued growth, noting a steady influx of new members. “The PGRS machinery in the Sukau State Assembly area remains on high alert and continues to strengthen its operations ahead of the upcoming state election,” he said.
The Sabah Election Commission has set polling day for the 17th state election on 29 November, with early voting scheduled for 25 November. - November 17, 2025
