INITIAL discussions regarding the payment mechanism for Sabah's 40 revenue rights have commenced between the State Secretary and the Head of the Malaysian Treasury at Menara Kinabalu, Sabah State Administrative Centre, (PPNS) Kota Kinabalu.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the meeting discussed the settlement method and payment mechanism involving the claim for the rights.
"I have not received the full report, but the State Secretary informed that discussions have been held, including regarding the mechanism and way to resolve the issue of the 40 percent rights.
“How the payment will be made and what needs to be done, all of that is being studied,” he told a press conference after attending the Our Home, We Care for GRS Campaign.
Hajiji said the state government is waiting for further details before any decision is finalised.
“We still have time. The court has given three months to discuss. Only after that will a decision be reached between the Federal Government and the Sabah Government.
“The discussions may not be just once, but many times before an agreement is reached,” he said.
He also explained that no amount has been set yet because the state government is still waiting for complete information regarding the revenue collected from Sabah.
Earlier, the Kota Kinabalu High Court ordered the Federal Government to pay Sabah its right to 40 percent revenue and following the decision, negotiations began on Monday. - November 18, 2025
