BERSATU Members of Parliament have firmly rejected speculation that a late-night meeting at the home of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was convened to discuss replacing the Opposition Leader.
Speaking outside Muhyiddin’s residence, the Sabak Bernam MP, Kalam Salan, insisted that the matter never arose during the discussions, which were also attended by the current Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
“We did not discuss any dismissal of the Opposition Leader,” he said.
Hamzah, who also serves as BERSATU’s deputy president, continues to hold the post of Opposition Leader. Earlier media reports had suggested that the meeting was convened to consider appointing a new Opposition Leader, but those present denied that such a matter was discussed.
In addition to Hamzah and Kalam, 16 other BERSATU MPs attended the meeting, including Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (Putrajaya), Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (Langkawi).
Kalam said the MPs used the meeting to reaffirm their support for Muhyiddin and to discuss preparations for the upcoming Sabah state election.
“We support the president and we also discussed the Sabah state election,” he said.
The scene outside Muhyiddin’s home remained calm throughout the evening, with no sign of the purported gathering claimed to have been organised to defend Hamzah’s position. - November 19, 2025
