A MITSUBISHI Pajero that was washed away together with its driver during a flash flood in Sungai Klang near the Saloma Link has been found approximately 1.5 kilometres from the incident site.
Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, said the vehicle was discovered at 8.30am after search and rescue operations resumed this morning. The Pajero was recovered without the victim inside following a drop in river levels of nearly one metre.
“The weather today is relatively good and the SAR operation will continue until 7pm. The recovery of the vehicle helps us refocus on possible current pathways that could have carried the victim,” he told reporters at the scene.
The vehicle has since been handed back to the company that owns it.
Sazalee said all available assets from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have been fully deployed, including 21 divers divided across four search zones. Drones, small boats and kayaks are also being used to sweep around 20 kilometres of the Klang River.
“We have divided the area into four zones and the search will extend beyond the Selangor border,” he said.
He confirmed that the victim’s mobile phone, reported to have still been ringing yesterday, is no longer active. Nevertheless, police are continuing to gather clues to narrow the search area.
“Yesterday’s current was extremely strong, but today the water is calmer, clearer and less hazardous for divers. The four search sectors set yesterday remain in place, and the 20-kilometre route will be thoroughly examined,” he said, adding that any suspicious river structures or obstructions will be designated as hotspots for divers.
Earlier reports stated that the missing man was among workers carrying out upgrading works on Sungai Klang when he was swept away by a surge of floodwater at around 5.40pm yesterday near the Saloma Link.
Sazalee said 13 workers were present at the site during the incident, of whom 12 were rescued. They comprised seven Indonesians, four Bangladeshis and one Malaysian. - November 19, 2025
