THE nation must deepen collaboration between government, industry, academia and innovators to reinforce the nation’s industrial credibility on the global stage, Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said, urging collective commitment to quality, sustainability and excellence.
Speaking at the SIRIM Industry 2025 event, themed “Quality and Sustainability through AI-Driven Innovation” on Wednesday, Fadillah said such cross-sector cooperation is crucial to ensuring that “every standard, certification, product and technological solution” contributes meaningfully to Malaysia’s international standing, particularly through national institutions such as SIRIM Berhad.
He said: “We remain steadfast in supporting SIRIM as the national certification body and as a leading institution spearheading artificial intelligence (AI) governance, smart manufacturing and a sustainable industrial ecosystem.
“We must choose collaboration, innovation and responsibility to ensure that the future of Malaysia’s industries is shaped by global strength, sustainability and excellence.”
Fadillah, who also serves as Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, stressed that Malaysia must act decisively in adopting AI as a catalyst for smarter factories, greener operations, safer products and world-class competitiveness.
He said SIRIM’s role has expanded beyond setting standards to becoming an organisation that shapes industrial potential and reinforces Malaysia’s position as a trusted global partner.
He added, “For 50 years, SIRIM has not only set standards; it has charted the direction of future potential. It has been the silent architect behind the confidence Malaysia enjoys today as a trusted global industrial partner.
“The MADANI Economic Framework and the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) guide us along this path, reminding us that economic strength is meaningless unless it is inclusive, sustainable and value-based.”
At the event, SIRIM Berhad announced two new certifications: the AI Management System Certification (ISO/IEC 42001) and the Innovation Management System Certification (MS ISO 56001). ISO/IEC 42001, the world’s first international standard for responsible and transparent AI governance, provides organisations with a structured framework for ethical and accountable AI management.
MS ISO 56001 offers a systematic approach for organisations to manage innovation effectively, strengthening internal processes, fostering structured creativity and building long-term innovation capability.
SIRIM was also recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for having 396 auditors, the highest number within any organisation in the country, underscoring its technical strength and longstanding commitment to national quality assurance.
Among those present were the Deputy Secretary-General (Investment and Management) of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil; SIRIM Chairman Datuk Dr Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi; SIRIM Acting President and Group Chief Executive Officer Nik Sazali Nik Hussin; and members of SIRIM’s board of directors. - November 20, 2025
