SABAH PKR is optimistic about playing a bigger role in the state administration if given the mandate in the 17th Sabah State Election, pledging to provide quality leadership, effective delivery and a reform agenda.

Sabah PKR's State Election director Datuk Peto Galim said the party is fielding quality candidates who are capable of contributing ideas and energy to strengthen the state administration, thereby benefiting the people at all levels.

“We are not fielding many candidates. PKR itself is contesting only 12 seats. The question is, why are we placing fewer candidatescontest and win, and the candidates we are fielding today are quality candidates,” he told Bernama in a recent interview.

Peto, who is also Sabah PKR deputy chairman, said the party is committed to bringing reforms to the state administrative system, particularly through efforts to streamline project implementation, improve governance, and ensure state departments and agencies function more efficiently.

“We will introduce several more reforms when we become part of the state government. Our spirit is the spirit of wanting to bring change, solve problems, create job opportunities and provide a conducive business environment for all across Sabah,” he said.

He said delays in project implementation and inefficiency in decision-making are among the major challenges that need to be addressed to ensure that state development can be carried out more quickly and with better quality.

“That is why I strongly urge the state leadership to look at the bigger framework — to pursue efforts that are more united and collaborative to move the state forward,” he added.

Peto stressed that Sabah PKR’s role after the state election is not merely to increase the number of seats, but to ensure that its elected representatives deliver real change to the state administration through solving people’s problems, implementing projects in an orderly manner and expanding job opportunities.

He also expressed confidence that Sabah PKR’s participation in the future state government will strengthen working relations between Sabah and the federal government, thus expediting the resolution of key issues such as infrastructure development, basic amenities and economic opportunities.

“Our hope is clear; we want to help form the Sabah state government, and when we do, we certainly want to play an active role in the state administration,” he said.

Peto added that the commitment and capability of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also contribute to the confidence that Sabah will receive greater attention and stronger support if PKR becomes part of the state government.

PKR is contesting 12 seats - Api-Api, Merotai, Melalap, Sindumin, Tulid, Gum-Gum, Karamunting, Segama, Petagas, Bandau and Moyog.

According to the Election Commission, 1,784,843 voters — comprising 1,760,417 regular voters, 11,697 military personnel and spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and spouses — are eligible to cast their ballots in this election.
