KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) today confirmed that there was a cyberattack on its database.

In a statement today, Defence Forces Chief Tan Sri Affendi Buang said the incident was detected by the Cyber and Electromagnetic Defence Division and the armed forces’ Cyber Defence Operation Centre.

“The two departments have isolated traffic data to obscure the actual data location to further protect the network from being targeted by hackers.

“The cyberattack failed to affect the portal’s true operation.

“The armed forces are aware of the continuous attempts on the networks owned by the Defence Ministry and MAF.”

He assured that the armed forces are constantly monitoring and enhancing its cyber security, not just to strengthen MAF’s surveillance networks but the ministry’s strategic communications network. – The Vibes, December 29, 2020
