KOTA KINABALU – A total of 61,762 rubber smallholders in Sabah will get their RM600 monsoon aid soon as the payment process began on December 23.

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan said the federal government has approved RM37.06 million for the cash aid and it will be transferred to the respective smallholders’ bank accounts.

“The government is concerned with the fate and welfare of the smallholders whose livelihoods from tapping rubber are badly affected due to the year end rainy season.

“Furthermore, the global rubber commodity prices remain low at present,” said Kitingan, who is also state Agriculture and Fisheries minister.
