PARLIAMENT will convene a bipartisan caucus to discuss the Malaysia-United States Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) this Thursday following growing concern over the impact of shifting US trade policies on Malaysian exports.

The meeting, set for 11am, will discuss the implications of the agreement signed on Oct 26, reported The New Straits Times.

"The caucus also aims to raise awareness among members of parliament and the public on global trade disruptions arising from changes in United States trade policies, assess the direct and indirect impacts of reciprocal tariffs on Malaysia, monitor the development of United States trade policies, particularly those related to tariffs on Malaysian exports, and propose appropriate initiatives to safeguard national interests," a statement from Parliament said.

The caucus will be chaired by Paya Besar member of parliament Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah and will comprise both government and opposition MPs.

Government representatives were selected by the Backbenchers Club chairman, while opposition members were named by the Dewan Rakyat opposition leader.

Members of the caucus are Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin (PN-Putrajaya), Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan), Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN-Bachok), Wong Chen (PH-Subang), Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN-Kubang Pasu), Richard Rapu @ Aman Anak Begri (GPS-Betong), Bakri Jamaluddin (PN-Tangga Batu), Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru), Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) and Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien (PBM-Julau).

The caucus was formed after a special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat on May 5, which decided on the establishment of a Parliamentary Caucus on the Imposition of United States Reciprocal Tariffs on Malaysia.

It said this platform was intended to provide engagement and input to the government in shaping Malaysia's strategic response. - November 24, 2025
