PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has affirmed the federal government’s full respect for Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s renewed mandate to form the Sabah government, saying the outcome of the state election represents a clear call from the people for meaningful change.
Anwar said the 17th Sabah general election had delivered an unmistakable signal from voters, who had “for so long endured neglect and injustice” at the hands of various political actors, whether from Peninsular Malaysia or Sabah itself.
“The Madani government fully respects the clear and firm message sent by Sabah voters, that they demand real change after being subjected for so long to neglect and injustice by almost all parties, whether from peninsular Malaysia or Sabah itself.
“Over the past three years, we have worked to resolve inherited issues, including claims and rights affecting Sabah, and achieved tangible progress on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he said in a statement.
Anwar added that the federal administration would remain steadfast in pursuing reforms designed to build “a fair, just and prosperous Sabah that is no longer sidelined”, emphasising that “the voice of the people of Sabah is a trust that must be upheld with the highest responsibility.”
The official results saw Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), led by Hajiji, emerge as the largest bloc with 29 of the 73 seats, allowing him to be sworn in for a second term as chief minister at around 3am on Sunday.
Parti Warisan finished close behind with 25 seats, while Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) struggled to gain ground, winning only the Melalap seat. DAP, a PH component party, failed to secure any of the eight seats it contested.
The Prime Minister stressed that the Madani government would continue working closely with Sabah’s leadership to advance outstanding matters under MA63 and ensure a fairer distribution of development and resources for the state. - November 30, 2025
