Three ministers sworn in for second term as senators

THREE members of the Senate today took their oath of office to begin their second term of service before the Speaker of the Senate, Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted in accordance with the provisions of Article 59(1) of the Federal Constitution, Standing Orders 4(1) and the Sixth Schedule to the Federal Constitution.

Those returning to the Senate as senators are Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

According to Awang Bemee, the reappointment is effective immediately until December 2, 2028.

“This appointment is for the second term and is effective from today until December 2, 2028.

“The three senators were appointed by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with the provisions of Article 45(1)(b) of the Federal Constitution,” he said.He said this after the swearing-in ceremony at the Dewan Negara, here, today.

This reappointment, he explained, is in line with the provisions of Articles 45(3) and 45(3)(a) which stipulate the term of office of the Dewan Negara.

For the record, all three were sworn in for their first term in December 2022. - December 3, 2025
