THE Agency for Border Control and Protection (AKPS) has confirmed that two viral videos circulating on social media were fabricated using deepfake technology to impersonate the agency’s Director-General.
The videos, uploaded via the TikTok account @datok.abdul.kazim, featured a face and voice closely resembling the senior official.
In a statement issued on Sunday, AKPS said the clips falsely appeared to show the Director-General endorsing certain forms of government assistance, despite the content having “never been produced or authorised by the agency.”
The statement cautioned the public against being misled by artificial intelligence–generated material.
“The public is reminded not to be deceived by AI-based content such as deepfakes, which can be manipulated for fraudulent purposes,” it said.
The agency urged Malaysians to rely on official government channels when seeking information about any form of public assistance.
“To obtain accurate information on any type of assistance provided by the government, the public is advised to refer to the official media channels and websites of the relevant ministries, departments and agencies,” the statement added.
AKPS emphasised that it views the circulation of the deceptive videos with utmost seriousness and intends to take legal action.
“AKPS is examining this matter seriously and asserts that it will take legal action against any party responsible for producing or disseminating the false content,” it said.
The agency reiterated that both videos were entirely falsified and created to misrepresent the Director-General, serving as a reminder of how sophisticated AI-driven impersonation tools are increasingly being exploited for scams and misinformation. - December 7, 2025
