A FRANTIC search continues in the coastal village of Kampung Pasir Pandak, Sarawak, after two five-year-old girls were reported missing on Saturday morning.
According to the Sarawak Operations Movement Centre of the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the children were last seen around 9 a.m. playing with a cousin near their grandmother’s house.
“Their grandmother’s home is located only about 50 metres from the family residence. The father of one of the girls realised they were missing at approximately 11 a.m. when he found they were no longer at the play area,” a JBPM spokesperson said.
Following the discovery, villagers and family members immediately began scouring the area, but initial efforts yielded no leads.
“After several hours of searching with no results, a police report was filed at 6 p.m.,” the spokesperson added.
JBPM received notification of the incident from police at 8 p.m., deploying a nine-member team from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
The search-and-rescue operation has been supported by police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA), and local residents.
Despite extensive efforts through the night, the two girls remained unaccounted for as of 5 a.m. on Sunday, prompting authorities to continue their urgent search across the village and surrounding coastal areas. - December 7, 2025
