THE nation will soon have a centralised Ombudsman to oversee and resolve public complaints, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced following a meeting of the Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance (JKKTN) which he chaired today.
The new agency is designed with a broad mandate to address issues ranging from maladministration and misconduct to whistleblower protection and freedom of information.
“The establishment of this body reaffirms the MADANI Government’s commitment to strengthening citizens’ rights while safeguarding the integrity of the public sector. The Ombudsman Malaysia Bill is scheduled to be tabled in early 2026,” Anwar said in a post on Facebook.
He explained that the government is also emphasising corporate compliance among companies managing public funds, ensuring that their social mandates are executed according to sound governance practices and a more structured legal framework.
“This initiative includes proposed legislation to streamline the governance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), including subsidiaries of statutory bodies,” the Prime Minister added.
Anwar stressed that the decision reflects the MADANI Government’s resolve to pursue holistic reforms across institutional, policy, and legal frameworks, aiming to boost public and investor confidence in administrative transparency and the quality of public services. - December 8, 2025
