Authorities probe early-morning fire, urge public to come forward with information - December 9, 2025

AUTHORITIES in Johor are investigating an arson incident at a residence in Taman Universiti, Skudai, believed to have been orchestrated by an unlicensed moneylender.

Acting Johor Bahru Utara District Police Chief Superintendent Azrol Anuar Nor said police received a report from a 58-year-old local man at 8:01 a.m. on Saturday.

Preliminary inquiries indicate the fire broke out at 4:18 a.m., with the complainant discovering his front yard ablaze, alongside shattered glass and a note suspected to have been thrown by the perpetrator.

The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substances, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years’ imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

Superintendent Azrol Anuar urged anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Johor Bahru Utara District Police Headquarters at 07-556 3122. - December 9, 2025
