A UNIVERSITY student from Jeli was charged in the Sessions Court here on Tuesday with two counts of sexual offences involving his 17-year-old girlfriend, who is also a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate.

The accused, 21-year-old Muhammad Yushakimi Jamaludin, pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read out before Judge Zulkpli Abdullah.

According to the first charge, Muhammad Yushakimi allegedly performed oral sex on the minor in a Perodua Myvi at a car park in Lata Janggut, Jeli, at 2.30 pm on November 29.

He faces prosecution under Section 377A of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum 20-year prison term and caning if convicted, under Section 377B of the same law.

The second charge accused him of committing physical sexual assault on the same victim at the same time and place.

This offence falls under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence and caning upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na’ilah Harizan proposed bail of RM20,000, but Muhammad Yushakimi’s lawyer, Habibah Wahab, requested a reduction, noting that her client is “still young and currently in his fifth semester, with only two semesters remaining to complete his studies.”

She also highlighted that the student’s parents had travelled from Ipoh, Perak, to provide support.

The judge granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety, and the case was set for further mention on January 11 next year.

Earlier reports indicated that the student and his girlfriend were apprehended by police after attempting to evade a checkpoint in Kampung Rabbana, Jeli, before allegedly carrying out immoral acts in the car.

The couple was intercepted following a police pursuit of their vehicle.

This case underscores ongoing concerns over the protection of minors and the enforcement of Malaysia’s sexual offences laws. - December 9, 2025
