POLICE in Butterworth have recovered a knife believed to have been used by a man to fatally stab his wife at an apartment in Seberang Jaya, Penang, authorities confirmed.

Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris, Chief of the Central Seberang Perai District Police, said forensic teams from the Penang Contingent Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department (D10) collected samples as part of the ongoing investigation.

The police were alerted at 11:30 a.m. after the suspect came forward and admitted to killing his wife at their home.

“Acting on this information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Central Seberang Perai District Police Headquarters attended the scene and found the deceased lying fully clothed on a mattress in a bedroom. She is believed to have passed away several days ago,” Helmi said in a statement.

Authorities recovered a knife thought to have been used in the incident and collected several samples for further examination.

The suspect, identified as the victim’s husband, has been taken into custody and will be presented at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court today to request a remand order.

The victim’s body has been transported to the Forensic Unit at Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem examination.

“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” Helmi added.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Earlier reports indicated that the suspected homicide occurred four days ago at a Jalan Tuna apartment, with the husband subsequently reporting the incident to a nearby police station. - December 12, 2025
