THE 30-year-old woman from Tanah Merah, Kelantan, previously alleged to be married to two men, has been confirmed to have only one current spouse following the verification of her divorce from her first husband in June 2022.

Mohd. Asri Mat Daud, Chairman of the State Committee for Islamic Development, Dawah, Information, and Inter-Regional Relations, stated that both the woman and her former husband confirmed that they had been legally divorced throughout this period.

“The confirmation was obtained when both individuals attended the Kelantan Department of Islamic Religious Affairs (Jaheaik) at the Tanah Merah Religious Office to give their statements yesterday,” he said.

“Based on the testimony of the man and woman, they were legally divorced in June 2022. The woman subsequently married another man, previously reported as her second husband, in Songkhla, Thailand, last November.

“Therefore, the claims that she had two husbands are inaccurate, as she currently has only one husband,” Mohd. Asri added.

He further explained that the investigation into other matters related to the case is still ongoing at Jaheaik.

“At present, Jaheaik has concluded actions regarding the registration of the marriage,” he said.

Kosmo! Online reported yesterday that the woman had come forward to give her statement to Jaheaik.

Mohd. Asri explained that her testimony was necessary to assist in the investigation into the claims of bigamy.

“The investigation is being conducted under Section 38 and Section 40 of the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2002.

“Section 38 pertains to false statements or declarations to obtain benefits, while Section 40 relates to offences concerning the marriage contract,” he added.

Earlier reports stated that a woman had claimed her brother had been deceived by his sister-in-law, discovering that she had been married to another man for over a year.

The deception came to light after Nur, 35, accompanied by two police officers and local residents, raided her second husband’s home at Batu 11 on 6 December. - December 15, 2025
