DATUK Seri Najib Razak's personal chef, Jaafar Ishak, said he had planned to prepare his employer's favourite dish, soy sauce soup, if Najib had been allowed to return home.

He was hopeful that the former Prime Minister would be allowed to serve the remainder of his prison sentence at home.

However, the High Court dismissed Najib’s application to serve the remainder of his six-year prison sentence under house arrest, compelling him to continue his incarceration at Kajang Prison.

High Court judge Alice Loke Yee Ching ruled that the add-on order, previously issued by the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong to permit Najib’s house arrest, is invalid and cannot be implemented.

According to reports in Astro AWANI, Jaafar, 79, who has worked with Najib's family since 1987, said he was ready to prepare his employer's favourite dish, soy sauce soup, if Najib had been allowed to return home.

"Soy sauce soup is his favourite. The dish is simple, but very popular. Apart from that, gulai kawah and puding raja are also among the menus that his family likes," he said when met at the Kuala Lumpur High Court compound.

Jaafar also shared a personal side of Najib at home, describing him as a calm person who rarely shows anger.

“He is not the type to get angry. He is very patient and calm,” he said simply.

Najib is currently serving a prison sentence at Kajang Prison after being convicted of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million of funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1MDB. – December 22, 2025
