PAKATAN Harapan (PH) in Perlis has declared its support for the state government led by Perikatan Nasional (PN), calling for the administration to remain in office until the end of its term to ensure political stability and the well-being of the state’s residents.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the coalition stressed that the current state government was formed on the basis of a clear mandate from the people through a legitimate democratic process, and that this mandate should be respected by all parties.
“The substantial mandate given by the people must be preserved. It is not an opportunity for internal conflict or power manoeuvres that only create public unease and undermine citizens’ confidence in the state’s institutions,” the statement read.
The announcement comes amid a political crisis in the state, following reports that five United Malays National Organisation (Bersatu) and three PAS assembly members had submitted statutory declarations to the Raja of Perlis, indicating a loss of confidence in the leadership of Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
The PH Perlis position followed an internal meeting on Tuesday night, signalling a shift in tone from an earlier statement by PH chairman Noor Amin Ahmad, who had indicated readiness to face a potential dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) if necessary.
PH Perlis explained that its decision to support the existing government was driven by the need to maintain political harmony, protect public interests, and uphold the integrity of the state’s royal institutions.
“Government stability is essential for a small state like Perlis, not only to ensure smooth administration but also to preserve state finances,” the statement said. “It is also important to prevent waste arising from political uncertainty and to respect the legitimate mandate granted by the people.” - December 24, 2025
