Perlis assemblyman defends controversial move amid PAS expulsions
Fakhrul Anwar says further details regarding Mohd Shukri’s actions would only be revealed after a new Chief Minister is appointed - December 25, 2025

BINTONG assemblyman Fakhrul Anwar Ismail has defended his decision, alongside two other Perlis PAS assemblymen, insisting that their actions were justified even if perceived differently by others.

Fakhrul Anwar criticised the state’s Chief Minister, Mohd Shukri Ramli, claiming his leadership had weakened PAS in Perlis and arguing that a change in state leadership was necessary.

“Our actions are right according to our judgment, and wrong for those who hold a different view. What is certain is that the MB’s actions have indeed weakened PAS in Perlis. A change is mandatory,” he told Berita Harian.

He added that further details regarding Mohd Shukri’s actions would only be revealed after a new Chief Minister is appointed.

“Wait until the appointment of the new Chief Minister is complete, then we will list everything,” he said, declining to comment further. Fakhrul Anwar also stressed that he remains committed to PAS, stating that he will use available avenues to appeal the decision.

The statement comes a day after PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced the immediate expulsion of three Perlis assemblymen, including Fakhrul Anwar, Chuping representative Saad Seman, and Guar Sanji’s Mohd Ridzuan Hashim.

The decision was made at a meeting of the PAS Central Working Committee under provisions of Articles 76 and 15A(1)(b) of the PAS Constitution (Amendment 2025).

The expulsions follow reports that several PAS and BERSATU assemblymen submitted statutory declarations to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, last Friday, indicating that they no longer supported Mohd Shukri’s leadership. - December 25, 2025
