FORMER Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has insisted that he will continue to demand his rights through legal channels.
“I will continue to demand my rights through legal channels with dignity and patience even though the path is lonely and requires great sacrifice,” he said.
The former Finance Minister’s statement was read by his lawyer Tan Sri Mohamed Shafee Abdullah during a press conference today.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court today found Najib guilty on all four charges of abusing his position to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). “Regardless of today’s decision, I remain confident in the country’s judicial process,” he said.
In the same statement, Najib also called on the public to remain calm, not to be influenced by any provocation that could affect harmony and insult the legal process.
“I appeal to all Malaysians to remain calm, rational and prudent… differences of opinion should be expressed in a mature, orderly and legal manner,” he said.
Najib also expressed his feelings when he felt as if he was facing this case alone but was still determined to continue based on principle.
"What I am demanding is only the rights provided by the law and what has been allowed.
"My intention has never changed to continue contributing to the development of the country and the well-being of the people," he said.
In the same press conference, Shafee confirmed that he would begin the appeal process next Monday. – December 26, 2025
