NO instructions were issued to any Perlis State Assemblyman (DUN) from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to sign any statutory declaration (SD), stressed its President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin said that Bersatu only informed the name of the Perlis Menteri Besar candidate from the party after being ordered by Istana Perlis.

He said his party will listen to the explanations of all Bersatu ADUN in Perlis to get the true position on the issue.

"I would like to emphasize that Perikatan Nasional (PN) respects the discretionary power of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail and upholds the State Constitution in the appointment of the Menteri Besar.

"PN also respects the position of PAS as the party leading PN Perlis. I hope the issue regarding the position of the Perlis Menteri Besar can be resolved in the spirit of the PN extended family," he said in a statement posted on Facebook on Saturday.

He said when commenting on the development of the political crisis in Perlis following the resignation of Mohd Shukri Ramli as Menteri Besar last Thursday.

Muhyiddin added that he was confident that PN member parties had their own methods to manage any issues that arose to ensure the stability and continuity of the administration in the state.

It was earlier reported that PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang submitted two names of Menteri Besar candidates to the Raja of Perlis, following the resignation of Mohd Shukri.

He stressed that the nomination was made after taking into account the party's position which still holds a majority of state assembly seats compared to its component partners in PN.

According to Abdul Hadi, the two names were submitted for the consideration of the Raja of Perlis as the most suitable candidates to lead the state administration in the current uncertain political situation.

Bersatu was also reported to have submitted three names of assemblymen as Menteri Besar candidates, namely Abu Bakar Hamzah (Kuala Perlis), Megat Hashirat Hassan (Pauh) and Izizam Ibrahim (Titi Tinggi).

The unrest in Perlis occurred when eight state assemblymen declared that they did not support Mohd Shukri's leadership.

They are alleged to have signed the sworn declaration (SD) and submitted it to Istana Perlis.

The eight assemblymen consist of three from PAS and the rest from Bersatu.

Following this, PAS decided to terminate the membership of the three Perlis assemblymen from the party immediately following their stance which is said to have lost trust in Mohd Shukri.

Perlis has 15 state seats and in the 15th General Election (GE15), PN created history when it won 14 seats (PAS 9, Bersatu 5) while Pakatan Harapan (PH) only won one seat in the Indera Kayangan state seat.

The latest position is that three PAS seats have been vacated, leaving the total number of Perlis state seats at 12, consisting of PAS (6), Bersatu (5) and PKR (1). – December 27, 2025
