A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was killed when the motorcycle he was riding with a friend collided with another bike in Kampung Merah, Kuala Ketil, yesterday evening.

Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe, head of the Baling District Police, stated that the Traffic Investigation Unit received an emergency call from a member of the public at around 7 p.m. reporting the incident.

Investigations indicate that the deceased and his 14-year-old companion were travelling from Kampung Charok Beras towards Kampung Padang Geh when they collided with another motorcycle ridden by a 16-year-old travelling from Kampung Paya Besar towards Kuala Ketil.

“The accident is still under investigation by the police,” Superintendent Brandon told reporters today.

The young rider who died was confirmed dead at the scene. His friend, who was a passenger on the same motorcycle, along with the rider of the second motorcycle, were rushed to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) in Sungai Petani for further treatment.

“The deceased rider’s body was subsequently sent to the Forensic Department at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar for a post-mortem examination,” Superintendent Brandon added.

Authorities are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to reckless or dangerous driving causing death. “If convicted, the offender may face imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than ten years, and a fine ranging from RM5,000 to RM20,000,” he said.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by young motorcyclists on Malaysian roads. - December 29, 2025
