THE Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has declared that it will abstain from joining the newly formed Perlis State Executive Council (Exco) under Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah, signalling a strong show of solidarity with the outgoing Chief Minister, Mohd Shukri Ramli.

PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan stated today that all current Exco members from the party will step down from their positions in alignment with Mohd Shukri’s resignation.

“PAS is committed to continuing its presence and role within the Perlis State Government in accordance with the mandate given by the people during the 15th General Election.

“However, at the same time, PAS will not participate in the Exco to be formed by the new Menteri Besar, and all existing PAS Exco members will resign as a mark of solidarity and in line with the departure of the former Chief Minister,” he said in an official statement.

Despite withdrawing from the new state executive council, PAS reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining its role in the Perlis State Government, emphasising that the party remains committed to upholding the mandate entrusted by voters during the last general election.

The move underscores growing political tensions in Perlis following the transition of leadership from Mohd Shukri Ramli to Abu Bakar Hamzah, reflecting ongoing frictions within the Perikatan Nasional coalition at the state level. - December 30, 2025
