PAS should stop blaming third parties when it’s obvious that it was the internal strife which led to the Islamist party losing the mentri besar post in Perlis.

Parti Amanah Nasional vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar said that PAS should not use third parties or make allegations such as pressure for development or jostling for positions to justify why it lost the MB post.

The reality is that PAS suffered from an internal strife, as there were quarters unhappy with the former MB Mohd Shukri Ramli's administration.

"It was clear when (Cikgu) Shukri begun losing various party positions from the grassroot to the top."

PAS allowed the conflict to prolong until Shukri lost the mandate to lead the state, said Mahfuz in a statement.

"This is an internal issue. It is unrelated to third parties or even their own allies."

If it is true that Shukri resigned because he refused to sign on development projects, he could have easily averted from stepping down by asking PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to resolve the matter, said Mahfuz.

There was no need to quit as such matters are common in governance matters, said Mahfuz.

"But PAS chose to bring in third party issues just to distract the people from the reality of that they failed to successfully even rule a small state like Perlis," said Mahfuz.

It is also disturbing that some quarters resorted to social media to peddle the issue of corruption in the state when they could have easily lodged reports with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate, he said.

The people of Perlis should learn from this episode, as it shows that PAS is like any other political party  where the jostling for posts and influence is part of the culture, he said. - December 30, 2025.
