A WOMAN accountant in Pasir Gudang has lost RM138,180 after falling victim to a non-existent online investment scheme that promised lucrative returns within a short period.
Seri Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 60-year-old victim was enticed by an offer guaranteeing a 20 per cent return on investment in a short timeframe.
“The victim, who was attracted by the promise of high returns, subsequently carried out payment transactions from 15 December to 22 December to two bank accounts,” he said in a statement today.
He said the victim was later instructed to make additional payments in order to claim the supposed profits that had been generated.
“The victim later realised she had been deceived as she did not receive any profits throughout the investment period and subsequently lodged a police report,” he added.
Mohd Sohaimi said further investigations are under way and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - January 1, 2026
