A CHILD suffered severe injuries after allegedly being subjected to prolonged abuse by his own mother at a house in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, prompting police to arrest the 21-year-old woman and open a criminal investigation.

The child sustained serious injuries, including a front tooth that had been knocked out, as well as bruising to the head, ears and eyes.

Police said the victim also had bruises on the body, arms and legs, wounds on both thighs, and dry, bleeding lips.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said a report regarding the incident was received at 10.53pm last Saturday.

Initial investigations found that the child was believed to have been abused continuously over the past two weeks, resulting in serious injuries that required hospital treatment.

“The victim was taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for medical treatment,” Fadil said.

“Following this, police arrested the victim’s mother and an application for a remand order was approved for six days until Thursday to assist further investigations,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Fadil said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which relates to child abuse and neglect.

According to police, the victim is the suspect’s only child. The woman works as an online clothing seller, and background checks showed that she has a prior criminal record involving drug-related offences. - January 6, 2025
