THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to apply for a remand for the former Army Chief and his two wives today.

This after MACC arrested General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan and the two women in connection with the Malaysian Army (TDM) tender procurement project, yesterday.

Also arrested was a married couple suspected of abetting the theft of RM2.4 million.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the five arrests.

“As of 7pm, we have arrested the (former) Army Chief, the two women who are his wives and we also arrested a Malay man and his wife suspected of abetting the theft of RM2.4 million,” he said.

Previously, the MACC said that the former army chief was required to give a statement on December 28, but was unable to do so because he was admitted to the hospital.

The MACC was also at the Ministry of Defence on December 23 to begin a preliminary investigation into several projects involving the army since 2023.

On December 29, Azam said they had seized six bank accounts belonging to the officer and his family members to assist in the investigation.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin confirmed that Muhammad Hafizuddeain had been ordered to go on leave with immediate effect until the investigation into the case reported against him was completed. – January 8, 2026
