THE former chairman of a Muslim regional welfare organisation was charged in the Ipoh Sessions Court today with 10 counts of misappropriation of humanitarian aid funds involving a total value of RM631,373.13.

The accused, Mohd Hakim Mohd Nor, 39, was also charged in the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court, Melaka and the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

The accused pleaded not guilty before Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi during the proceedings in Ipoh today.

The accused was charged, as the chairman of the non-governmental organisation (NGO), with dishonestly misappropriating the organisation's property, namely humanitarian aid funds in collaboration with NGOs in Myanmar, Yemen, Syria and Palestine.

The first charge involved misappropriation of RM3,000, the second RM24,121.59, the third RM160,000, the fourth RM48,000, the fifth RM25,000, the sixth RM120,002, the seventh RM40,0001.50, the eighth RM34,415, the ninth RM40,000, and the tenth RM136,833.04.

The acts were allegedly committed between January 2018 and December 2021 at three bank branches in Ipoh, Batu Gajah, and Seri Iskandar; Perak.

All 10 charges were under Section 403 of the Penal Code [Act 574], which provides for a prison sentence of between six months and five years, whipping and a fine, if convicted.

Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin and Asmaa' Zamri while the accused was represented by lawyer, Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusoff.

Muaz Ahmad requested that the accused's case in Ipoh today be transferred to the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court 1, Melaka, to be tried together without applying any conditions for bail for the accused.

Azizzul Shariman, who represented the accused, did not object to the Perak case being tried together with the Melaka case.

The judge then allowed the case to be transferred and tried in Melaka.

Yesterday, Mohd Hakim was charged at the Ayer Keroh Melaka Sessions Court on six counts of misappropriation of humanitarian mission funds involving more than RM576,000.

For the case in Melaka, a total bail of RM35,000 with one surety was offered to the accused, and March 13 was set as the date for mention of the case.

On Monday, Mohd Hakim was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with misappropriating property belonging to the Muslim Regional Association totalling RM207,000, seven years ago, with the accused also pleading not guilty. - January 14, 2026
