THE proposal to reinstate the UPSR and PT3 examinations is seen as worthy of reconsideration as a benchmark for the academic achievement of pupils and students in this country.

Johor State Education and Information Exco, Aznan Tamin, said the proposal voiced by UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, took into account the wishes and concerns of parents who want a clear, structured and uniform assessment system.

He said he also supported the proposal for the Malaysian Teachers Protection Act to be created to safeguard the welfare and dignity of the country's educators.

"The Malaysian Teachers Protection Act coincides with the current reality faced by teachers, encompassing welfare issues and the implementation of discipline in schools.

"In addition to the increasingly complex workload and challenges of the educational environment, there is demand for clearer and fairer legal support.

"The same is true of the demand for the return of UPSR and PT3, taking into account the voices and wishes of parents who want a clear benchmark to assess the level of academic achievement and development of children in school," he said in a statement.

According to the Tanjung Surat assemblyman, the Johor government fully supports both proposals for the good of the country's education system.

"The proposals are in line with the state government's commitment to protect educators and ensure a balanced, quality and focused education system.

"This will lead to the building of a generation of excellent, competitive and competent Bangsa Johorians for the future of the state and the country," he said.

On Saturday, UMNO demanded that the Ministry of Education reinstate the UPSR and PT3.

Ahmad Zahid, when wrapping up his presidential policy speech in conjunction with the UMNO General Assembly (PAU) 2025, said that the party would ensure that this wish was achieved. – January 18, 2026
