A HOUSEWIFE in Batu Pahat has lost RM239,000 after being duped by a non-existent investment scheme that promised high and rapid returns, police said.
The 35-year-old victim, a Chinese national, claimed she was drawn into the investment after being approached by an unknown individual on October 27 last year.
Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the victim communicated with the suspect via WhatsApp.
“The suspect offered the victim an opportunity to join the investment scheme and promised lucrative profits,” he said in a statement.
Shahrulanuar said that between December 14 last year and last Thursday, the victim gradually transferred money into five different bank accounts, amounting to a total of RM239,000.
“After seeing profits reflected in the investment application totalling more than RM663,000, the victim attempted to withdraw the funds,” he said.
“However, the victim was instructed to make additional payments in order to release the money. The victim did not comply with the instruction and did not receive the promised returns.”
He said the victim eventually realised she had been deceived and lodged a police report for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - January 19, 2026
