RAPPER and filmmaker Wee Meng Chee, better known by his stage name Namewee, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to an additional charge of possessing a prescription medication at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur last year.

Namewee, 43, was charged with having 0.78 grammes of Sildenafil, a medication commonly prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, at premises along Jalan Conlay at about 4.30 pm on Oct 22, 2025.

The charge was brought under Section 9(1) of the Poisons Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 32(2) of the same Act, which carries a maximum penalty of a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both, upon conviction.

In the same proceedings, Namewee also claimed trial to an amended charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for allegedly possessing 1.57 grammes of methamphetamine at the same location, date and time.

If convicted under Section 12(3) of the Act, he faces a maximum fine of RM100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim fixed March 5 for mention of the case and ordered that the bail of RM2,000 previously imposed by the court be maintained.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal appeared for the prosecution, while Namewee was represented by lawyer Joshua Tay.

The court was also reminded that on Dec 22 last year, Namewee had been acquitted and discharged of a separate charge of self-administering drugs. That charge was withdrawn after the prosecution informed the court that pathology test results had returned negative findings. - January 19, 2026
