PERLIS Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah has suggested a ‘win-win’ approach to resolve the ongoing legal dispute between three PAS state assembly members, who had their party membership revoked, and the Speaker of the Perlis State Assembly, Rus’sele Eizan.
Speaking after receiving a courtesy visit from Parti Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at his office in Kompleks Seri Putra, Abu Bakar said the central leadership of PAS could play a role in harmonising relations between the two sides to ensure political stability in the state.
“I propose that the three assembly members be reinstated as legislators, even if under the status of independent ADUNs, because they still hold the mandate and rights as representatives to safeguard the welfare of their constituents,” he said.
Abu Bakar added that the ‘win-win’ approach could involve the Speaker making a considered decision while the three assembly members withdraw their lawsuits against him.
“A meeting could be arranged between the Speaker of the Perlis State Assembly and the three PAS ADUNs who were dismissed to find a harmonious resolution. If this is achieved, the matter can be settled in a brotherly manner,” he said.
The Menteri Besar, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Perlis and State Chief of Bersatu Perlis, stressed that the current uncertainty has left residents in the three affected constituencies unsure about access to assistance and welfare services.
“If the proposed resolution cannot be implemented, I will establish a Menteri Besar Service Centre in each of the three constituencies, including Indera Kayangan, bringing the total to four centres. These centres will assist the public with the distribution of aid and welfare matters,” he explained.
Abu Bakar confirmed that the proposals had been communicated to both Muhyiddin and PAS Spiritual Leader, Datuk Hashim Jasin, and are expected to be discussed at an upcoming PAS Syura Council meeting.
The dispute arose following the revocation of the party membership of former Guar Sanji ADUN Mohd Ridzuan Hashim, Fakhrul Anwar Ismail of Bintong, and Saad Seman of Chuping on January 2.
The Speaker subsequently announced that their state assembly seats would need to be vacated on December 25 to pave the way for by-elections.
Abu Bakar emphasised that finding a cooperative and conciliatory solution is essential not only for restoring political stability but also for ensuring that the welfare and needs of Perlis residents continue to be properly addressed. - January 24, 2026
