THE effectiveness of Malaysia’s early disaster warning system emerged as a key topic of discussion in the Dewan Rakyat today, with lawmakers pressing the government on the speed and comprehensiveness of information dissemination, particularly to rural communities.
According to the Order of Proceedings posted on Parliament’s official website, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu) asked the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment to clarify the system’s operational effectiveness during the oral question session.
The session also saw Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi (PN-Kuala Kedah) urge the Prime Minister to provide an update on the status of the National Syariah Prosecution Efficiency Plan (PKPSN) and its recognition as an official national policy.
He further questioned whether the government intends to establish a Federal Syariah Prosecution Department Act to strengthen Islamic prosecution functions and ensure its independence is on par with the Attorney General’s Chambers.
In a separate line of inquiry, Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) requested the Prime Minister to provide updates on the government’s proposal to draft a Political Financing Act to ensure greater transparency in party funding.
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (PN-Kemaman) turned attention to higher education, asking the Minister of Higher Education to report the percentage of graduates from 2021 to 2025 working in semi-skilled positions or outside their fields of study, and to outline government strategies aimed at reducing these numbers annually.
Following the oral question session, the Dewan Rakyat is set to resume debate on the Motion of Loyalty to the Royal Address, which began last week in the wake of the Opening Ceremony of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, officiated by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim on 19 January.
The current parliamentary sitting is scheduled to run over 20 days, concluding on 3 March. - January 26, 2026
