PAS assistant secretary-general Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman has urged a temporary “ceasefire” between PAS and Bersatu, imploring all factions within Perikatan Nasional (PN) to refrain from public commentary while the coalition’s top leadership convenes to resolve its ongoing internal disputes.
“It would be better for all of us, at the 'operator' level, to agree to a ceasefire. Silence is golden. Let's leave it to the top leadership to hold a 'full-council' meeting immediately,” Syahir, who also serves as political secretary to PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, posted on Facebook on Sunday.
The call comes after Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s former aide, Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad, and the party’s information chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, made public comments on several issues affecting PN, including proposals to abolish the coalition’s chairmanship.
Internal tension within PN has intensified since the political crisis in Perlis, with leaders from both parties exchanging pointed statements on multiple matters, including leadership arrangements and strategic direction.
On Sunday, Marzuki defended Muhyiddin on Facebook, asserting that the chairmanship issue had been discussed and settled during a meeting on January 16.
He said the meeting had been attended by key PAS leaders, including Hadi, deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, and Syahir himself.
Syahir, however, questioned why Marzuki chose to make the matter public rather than keeping it an internal PN discussion.
“If I followed my heart, I would have responded to it, but I chose to restrain myself. As such, out of respect for Datuk Dr M (Marzuki) and Tun F (Tun Faisal), my request is this: please, enough of this,” he said, appealing for discretion and calm among party operatives.
He noted that it is now February 1, almost a month since Muhyiddin resigned as PN chairman, and warned that ongoing public disputes were hindering the coalition’s progress.
“This has affected our journey ahead. 'PASsengers' (PN members) are anxious. Our 'family' (the people) is waiting. We only want to continue with this journey,” Syahir added, underscoring the need for unity, measured communication, and leadership-led resolution to maintain PN’s stability and credibility. - February 2, 2026
