IN a heart-wrenching display of love and devotion, six-year-old Wan Omera has vowed to become a doctor in order to care for her father, who has been left paralysed following a severe brain injury sustained in a road accident last year.
The emotional message was captured in a video shared on TikTok by her mother, Ann Nuur Ain Mohamed Don, which has since received over two million views and more than 258,000 likes.
In the clip, Wan Omera gently strokes her father, Wan Ahmad Aminuddin Wan Ismail, 33, who remains confined to a wheelchair, and expresses her wish to look after him when she grows up.
Ann Nuur Ain, 32, recounted that her husband had been in good health prior to the accident on 29 June 2024, which occurred as he was riding home from work on his motorcycle.
“The accident happened after my husband’s motorcycle collided with a car that changed lanes without signalling on a road in Kota Tinggi,” she said.
The collision caused severe trauma to his brain, necessitating emergency surgery to remove part of his skull.
Since the accident, Wan Ahmad has been completely dependent, having spent six months in a coma and requiring a tracheostomy to assist with breathing.
He cannot speak or feed himself and remains paralysed, with doctors confirming the condition is permanent.
Despite the overwhelming challenges, Ann Nuur Ain described her pride in her daughter’s unwavering compassion.
“I feel proud because her ambitions are focused on family happiness, especially for her father and me. She never feels ashamed of her father’s condition and always brings hope that he will recover,” she said.
The family involves the children directly in caring for their father, including feeding, massaging, and assisting him during prayer.
“Every time the children show love and speak to him, he smiles. Now there is some response and reaction, even if it is only a smile or tears,” Ann Nuur Ain added.
The mother highlighted the immense difficulty of managing three young children while caring for a severely disabled spouse, particularly as she herself was only two weeks post-Caesarean birth at the time of the accident.
Support from extended family has been crucial in helping her cope.
Ann Nuur Ain emphasised the importance of teaching children to embrace family challenges with love and responsibility rather than shame.
“Do not compare the shortcomings of our family with the advantages of others. Turn our limitations into strengths,” she said.
Looking to the future, she expressed hope for her husband’s resilience and divine intervention for some measure of recovery.
“It would be enough if he could simply watch the children grow, speak, and play with them,” she said. She also expressed aspirations for her children to succeed in both worldly and spiritual life, guided by strong religious principles, and to become positive contributors to their family and society.
