THE appearance of a Malaysian Army tactical vehicle in Long Bawan village, Krayan district, North Kalimantan, has raised questions among local residents, particularly as discussions over the Indonesia–Malaysia border involving three villages have resurfaced.
According to a report by Tribun Pekanbaru, the vehicle bearing registration number ZC 6735 was believed to have entered Indonesian territory, prompting public speculation over the presence of foreign military assets in a sensitive border area.
However, Krayan district head Roni Firdaus clarified that the presence of the Malaysian Army vehicle was authorised by Indonesian authorities and did not involve any military operation.
He said the movement was purely logistical in nature and had received official approval from the relevant agencies.
“This is part of their operational activity. In the border area, there is also a Malaysian Combined Post. Therefore, the movement was permitted and all administrative procedures were processed through the Border Security Task Force based in Teluk Midang,” he explained.
The clarification effectively dismissed claims that the appearance of the Malaysian military vehicle constituted a breach of Indonesia’s territorial sovereignty. - February 2, 2026
