OPPOSITION Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has reiterated calls for the government to clarify in Parliament the allegations surrounding the transfer of 5,207 hectares of land to Indonesia.
This land is reportedly being used as compensation for three villages located in the Nunukan area, near the Sabah-Kalimantan border.
Hamzah, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Larut, emphasized the importance of a detailed explanation following the claims made by Indonesia’s Secretary of the Border Management Agency.
These claims were reportedly discussed during a meeting of Indonesia’s Commission II of the People’s Representative Council (DPR) on January 21.
"We have asked for this matter to be addressed in Parliament. Just answer and explain it there. Why make it so difficult?" Hamzah said in a Facebook post on Monday.
He also advised Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim not to overreact to the opposition’s calls for clarification, suggesting that the Prime Minister should avoid unnecessary stress, which could affect his performance in other areas.
The call for clarification in Parliament came after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that there was no need for such a discussion in the parliamentary session. Anwar had instead criticized the opposition for allegedly spreading misinformation and abusing free speech for political gain.
Previously, Hamzah had insisted that the issue, which concerns national sovereignty, should be addressed in Parliament.
He argued that the situation is serious due to the involvement of land that may now be under Malaysian jurisdiction, following a reported shift in the border between Malaysia and Indonesia.
The three villages in Nunukan, North Kalimantan, have reportedly been affected by this shift, with allegations suggesting that they now fall under Malaysian territory due to changes in the border demarcation. - February 2, 2026
