WHAT began as a routine trip to visit a friend turned fatal for a pair of brothers when their motorcycle lost control and struck an unfinished drain near Jalan Bunga Tanjung last night, leaving one of them dead.
The accident occurred at approximately 10.10pm when the 17-year-old rider, accompanied by his 14-year-old younger brother, was en route to a friend’s home in Kuala Ina following dinner.
Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman, Chief of Police for Tampin District, said the motorcycle, a Yamaha Y100, reportedly lost control while negotiating a bend and collided with a drain under construction on the left shoulder of the road.
“The collision caused the younger brother, who was the pillion passenger, to be thrown into a drain approximately 10 metres deep. He was extricated with the assistance of firefighters,” he said in a statement.
The rider sustained minor injuries, while the younger passenger was pronounced dead around 11.30pm at Tampin Hospital despite receiving medical treatment.
“The motorcycle was travelling from Pekan Tampin towards Kuala Ina when the accident occurred,” Amiruddien added. “Investigations are ongoing, and members of the public with information regarding this road accident are urged to contact the Tampin District Traffic Police or Inspector Sritharan at 06-4412502 to assist with the inquiry.”
A formal investigation has been opened under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. - February 3, 2026
