PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will deliver a comprehensive explanation on the Malaysia–Indonesia border alignment issue in a Special Briefing session in Parliament this morning, in response to growing public confusion and media speculation.
“I will explain the Malaysia–Indonesia border alignment issue in detail at the Special Briefing Session in Parliament this morning,” Anwar said in a statement.
“It is my hope that this explanation will benefit everyone, especially in correcting the confusion and misunderstandings that have arisen among the public.”
The announcement follows widespread reports suggesting that Malaysia had allegedly ceded over 5,000 hectares of land to Indonesia, claims the Prime Minister has repeatedly rejected.
In late January, Anwar categorically described these assertions as “inaccurate,” stressing that no transfer of territory has occurred and that negotiations are ongoing in line with legal procedures.
Government sources confirmed that discussions regarding the land boundary remain active, with no final resolution reached.
“Despite media coverage, the Government maintains that these negotiations are being handled in accordance with legal protocols and that no final agreement has been concluded,” one official stated.
In a related measure, the Cabinet has requested a detailed report from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to address circulating claims that certain Indonesian villages may now be within Malaysian territory.
This step reflects the administration’s emphasis on clear communication to prevent public misinterpretation of complex cross-border matters.
The Special Briefing is expected to provide a detailed update on the ongoing border alignment process, clarify outstanding questions, and assure Malaysians of the government’s commitment to protecting the nation’s territorial integrity while maintaining transparency in its dealings with Indonesia. - February 4, 2026
