Failing to manage crisis in Bersatu, Muhyiddin asked to step down – Ronald Kiandee

PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Vice-President Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee today urged Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to resign from the presidency following the prolonged turmoil in the party.

He, who is also the Sabah Bersatu Chairman, is confident that Muhyiddin's resignation will restore and rebuild Bersatu's true strength, including strengthening strategic relationships with its Perikatan Nasional (PN) component partners.

In a statement today, Kiandee described the action of the Bersatu Disciplinary Board to confront Deputy President Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin on old and new charges as a clearly regressive step and at odds with efforts to strengthen the party to face the upcoming elections.

More worryingly, he said, the board’s action to confront division heads, including elected representatives, members of Parliament and State Assemblymen who support Hamzah, also showed a desperate abuse of disciplinary procedures to silence the voices of the party's main leadership from continuing to convey views, reprimands and feedback for the survival and future of the party.

“This situation has caused Bersatu to appear increasingly disoriented and straying from the true goals of its struggle in the eyes of the people, as if the party’s struggle is now only focused on maintaining Muhyiddin’s power and protecting a group of supporters of a certain leader, without taking into account the relationships and trust of its friends in the PN coalition,” he said.

In this context, he claimed that Muhyiddin had clearly failed to manage the party’s internal crisis effectively, until it was left to drag on to a level that was almost impossible to recover from.

“More unfortunate, he is seen using all his remaining strength solely to defend his position as president to fulfil his personal agenda to return to being prime minister, including blocking  Hamzah Zainudin from leading Bersatu in the future,” he said.

He believed that this statement could be accepted by a leader with a big heart like Muhyiddin, not to mention that this stance is in line with the essence of his own statement in Singapore in 2008 against the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. – February 10, 2026
