HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has reiterated that all citizens must uphold the law, particularly with regard to land use and the construction of houses of worship.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Wednesday, Sultan Ibrahim stressed that the development of temples should follow the same legal procedures and regulations as mosques, churches, and Chinese temples.
Reflecting on a previous experience in January 2018, Seri Paduka recalled personally mediating the sensitive matter of a temple demolition in Johor.
The King emphasised that the issue was resolved amicably, with decorum and full adherence to the law.
“I myself resolved the matter fairly and properly and advised all parties involved to always comply with the law to prevent undesirable outcomes and safeguard public peace,” he said.
Sultan Ibrahim also highlighted the importance of mutual respect among different faiths. “Islam stresses the principle of respecting one another, and it does not prevent followers of other religions from practising their beliefs and worship.
Adherents of other faiths should also show respect towards Islam. This approach is vital to prevent misunderstandings, tension, and provocation, while reinforcing unity among people of diverse religions and cultures,” he said.
His Majesty further urged that any disputes involving the construction of temples or other religious sites must be addressed through lawful channels, in order to maintain harmony, tolerance, and goodwill.
Sultan Ibrahim cautioned against politicising religious matters, noting that doing so could undermine national unity, social cohesion, and stability in Malaysia’s multiracial society.
“Malaysia is a nation built on the foundation of harmony, and the strength of the country lies in mutual respect, tolerance, and adherence to the law,” he said. The King called on all citizens to uphold these values for the collective good.
He also reminded the public to avoid statements or actions that could cause misunderstandings, division, or threaten the country’s peace.
