FOUR activists detained in connection with a campaign opposing the demolition of an allegedly unauthorised temple in Taman Rawang Perdana have been released after the High Court overturned a two-day remand order previously granted by the Selayang Magistrates’ Court.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed the development, stating, “Yes, the High Court order,” while noting that police investigations into the case are still ongoing.
The released activists include 59-year-old Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak, alongside Muhammad Zulfahmi Zulkifli, 39, Muhammad Heiqal Jaafar, 26, and Muhammad Azali Abdul Razak, 29.
Police had initially detained the men following a complaint from a local resident regarding the unauthorised construction and subsequent demolition of the temple.
In a separate but related crackdown, authorities also detained 19 individuals in Kuala Lumpur, including two slated for remand, in connection with an attempted gathering organised by the Anti-Illegal Places of Worship Movement (GARAH) outside the Sogo Shopping Complex on Saturday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said the arrests were made after an ad hoc assembly took place despite police denying permission on grounds of public safety and order.
Among those detained were 15 men and four women aged between 30 and 64, who were present at the event when police intervened.
Authorities emphasised that while the High Court’s decision secured the activists’ release, investigations into both the Rawang temple demolition and the unauthorised assembly continue, underscoring the government’s focus on maintaining public order and adherence to legal procedures. - February 13, 2026
