POLICE have launched an intensive investigation after a gunshot shattered the glass door of a bank in Jalan Lanang, Sibu, in a brazen mid-afternoon incident that left no casualties but raised security concerns.
The district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili of the Royal Malaysia Police, confirmed that officers recovered a spent cartridge casing and a live round at the scene, both believed to be linked to the shooting.
“The Sibu District Police Headquarters has confirmed receiving a report from a man regarding the incident.
“According to a witness, two men were riding a motorcycle, and one of them fired a single shot using what is believed to have been a pistol before fleeing,” he said in a statement.
The incident is understood to have occurred at about 3pm and quickly circulated on social media.
ACP Zulkipli said the shooting did not result in any injuries or fatalities. The case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960.
He urged members of the public to refrain from speculation that could compromise the investigation, as efforts continue to establish the motive behind the attack and to identify and apprehend those responsible. - February 16, 2026
