MEMBER of Parliament for Ketereh Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor may face disciplinary action from Bersatu for attending a recent political briefing with Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, party officials have indicated.
His attendance could place him in the same position as other members who have previously been expelled.
Kelantan Bersatu chairman Datuk Kamarudin Md Nor said the party’s Secretary-General has issued clear instructions prohibiting any Bersatu elected representative from participating in events organised by individuals who are already under disciplinary sanctions.
Nevertheless, Khlir was observed attending the “Political Reset” briefing last Saturday.
“Disciplinary action against any member or elected representative falls under the authority of the central leadership.
“The action is taken at the national level, and Khlir himself took the risk. I cannot predict what the central leadership will decide after it is evident that the directive has been defied,” Kamarudin told reporters at the Tourism and Arts Industry Appreciation Dinner 2025 held at the Grand Renai Hotel on Monday evening.
He added: “Khlir is now under scrutiny not only at the state level but at the central level too. He should expect that measures may be taken against him.”
Previously, media reports highlighted a stern warning from Bersatu Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who emphasised that any member colluding with individuals acting against the party constitution or making statements that could tarnish the party’s reputation would be committing a breach.
The party’s internal crisis escalated when 17 leaders, including Hamzah, were expelled, following the submission of statutory declarations urging Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin to resign.
Khlir had confirmed his signature on one of these declarations.
Alongside Khlir, the briefing also included 19 other MPs, both current and former Bersatu members, as well as fellow Bersatu MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz from Tanah Merah.
When asked whether there were plans to meet Datuk Khlir to obtain an explanation, Kamarudin stressed there was no need at present.
“I do not think it is necessary to meet him because it has already happened. If it had not occurred, there would be a reason to discuss. But now, we cannot say much. So far, the central Bersatu leadership has not reached out to him for further information regarding the Ketereh MP,” he said.
Kamarudin also clarified that Bersatu Kelantan’s approach to internal matters differs from that of some other states.
“We adopt a democratic stance involving all branch-level leaders. We consult on how to resolve issues. In some other states, only the chief speaks, even if there are subordinates who disagree,” he explained.
The development underscores the continuing fallout from Bersatu’s internal disputes and the cautious approach the Kelantan leadership is taking while awaiting potential central-level action. - February 16, 2026
