TWO men in their 30s have been arrested after police seized more than 30 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine valued at approximately RM1.56 million during an operation on the North–South Expressway near Pedas, Rembau.
The suspects were detained on 12 February at kilometre 236.9 of the North–South Expressway following intelligence-led surveillance by the Negeri Sembilan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said investigations indicated the drugs were intended for distribution in the southern region of Peninsular Malaysia, with the two men acting as couriers.
"JSJN Negeri Sembilan with the cooperation of the Rembau District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division and assisted by EMPV JSPT Bukit Aman launched an operation following information and intelligence related to drug trafficking activities masterminded by local individuals.
“Acting on the information and intelligence gathered, the operations team stopped a Perodua Bezza carrying two local men by the roadside,” he said at a press conference at the Negeri Sembilan police contingent headquarters.
Police halted the vehicle before discovering two plastic sacks, each containing 15 packets of Chinese tea, a method commonly used to conceal narcotics.
“Further inspection led to the seizure of 30 packages containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine, with an estimated weight of 30,601 grammes and a value of approximately RM1.56 million.
“This quantity is believed to be sufficient to supply around 30,000 addicts and could have had a significant impact on the community if successfully distributed.
“The drugs are believed to have originated from Puchong, Selangor. Initial investigations indicate the activity has been active since 2025 and is believed to be targeting the southern states,” he said.
Alzafny said both suspects have previous records for narcotics offences and possession of stolen property. They are believed to come from the same district in Johor and work as a mechanic and a fisherman respectively, and are understood to be from the same village.
“We understand that the two suspects acted as ‘transporters’ and that they are from a district in Johor and work as a mechanic and a fisherman. Both are from the same village.
“They were remanded for seven days starting from 13 February, which ended today, to assist in investigations. A further remand application was made and extended for another four days.
“Urine screening tests also found the suspects positive for methamphetamine. We believe there are still other members of the syndicate and further investigations are ongoing,” he said.
Police believe additional members of the syndicate remain at large and say further investigations are ongoing. - February 19, 2026
