COMMUTERS using Rapid Rail during Ramadan will benefit from extended peak hour services, with morning and evening operating windows adjusted to meet increased passenger demand, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said on Monday.
Speaking during question time in the Dewan Rakyat, Loke explained that morning peak hour services will run from 6.30am to 9.30am, while evening peak operations are scheduled from 4pm to 8pm. In comparison, the standard peak hours in other months run from 7am to 9.30am and 5pm to 7.30pm.
“These steps are taken to ensure smoother operations, improve passenger comfort and accommodate crowds utilising Rapid Rail trains as their preferred travel medium when heading to break fast,” he said, emphasising that the extended schedule is an annual adjustment during Ramadan.
Loke’s remarks were in response to Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi), who queried whether Rapid Rail plans to update peak hour timings and how the operator manages train disruptions during the fasting month.
The minister highlighted Rapid Rail’s proactive approach to maintenance, noting that predictive and preventive measures are implemented year-round to reduce technical disruptions.
“This can reduce the possibility of any technical disruptions. However, we cannot predict when disruptions can happen. Regardless, we are working hard to reduce this,” he said.
He added that technical personnel are stationed on trains to address issues immediately, while station staff are trained in crowd control to minimise congestion.
Loke also cited a significant reduction in reported technical disruptions, from approximately 220 incidents in 2022 to fewer than 50 in 2025.
“Improvements reflect how our maintenance measures are paying off. But, we are not satisfied with this yet. To say there have been no improvements is unfair,” he said.
Loke clarified that disruptions include any situation where a train remains stationary for five minutes or more, and stressed that rectification works are prioritised to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
He made the remarks in response to a supplementary question by Dr Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun) concerning the effectiveness of preventive maintenance in reducing asset failure, underscoring Rapid Rail’s commitment to reliable and safe transport throughout the fasting season. - February 23, 2026
