KOTA Melaka Member of Parliament, Khoo Poay Tiong, today urged Tan Sri Azam Baki to resign as Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following the 17.7 million share election issue.
He stressed that if the government fails to take firm action, he and DAP MPs will quit the Unity Government.
“I ask that the government take firm action. Azam Baki must resign. He must go, or we go. That is my message.
“This is because if we allow him to continue to hold the position of Chief Commissioner of the MACC, in the next election, the voters will punish us.
“I hope my time of speech is over, but let’s not let our term as government end after the next election,” he said during a debate session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Previously, international media Bloomberg alleged that Azam owns 17.7 million shares in Velocity Capital Partner Bhd based on corporate filings with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), in addition to labelling the MACC as a corporate mafia for allegedly colluding with the body’s investigation unit.
Khoo also said that the establishment of a Special Investigation Committee to investigate Azam's stock selection is not enough, and that a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) should be established to clear the name of MACC.
"Our country's Corruption Perception Index has risen three places, currently at 54th place. I am worried that next year it will fall because of these reports.
"We only established a special task force to investigate the shareholding of the MACC Chief Commissioner, but regarding the corporate mafia, to this day, there is still no further action from the government.
"I propose that an RCI be established to investigate these reports so that we can clear the name of MACC," he said.
He added that the revelation was not new; in fact, Azam was previously reported to have owned more shares than allowed in 2022. – February 24, 2026
