AG defends transfer of MACC prosecutions director amid concerns over high-profile cases

THE Attorney General has moved to quell concerns over the transfer of a senior prosecutor who has led several of Malaysia’s most prominent corruption trials, insisting that the reshuffle will not affect the handling of cases at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed that Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin has been reassigned from his post as Director of Legal and Prosecution at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to serve as Deputy Head of the Trial and Appeals Division II within the Trial and Appeals Division at the Attorney General’s Chambers, with effect from 2 March 2026.

“I emphasise that the transfer of officers is a normal matter within the Judicial and Legal Service, and is carried out to ensure a balance of experience, continuity of leadership, and the strengthening of organisational capacity,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mohd Dusuki stressed that Wan Shaharuddin would remain able to discharge his responsibilities in significant cases, while also being allowed to conduct appellate proceedings at higher levels of the courts.

He urged all parties to regard the transfer as a positive step towards reinforcing the role of the Attorney General’s Chambers and ensuring that the administration of justice continues to function at an optimal level.

The Trial and Appeals Division, he said, is one of the principal divisions within the Chambers, playing a critical role in safeguarding the effectiveness of prosecutions and the smooth conduct of appeals before the superior courts.

Wan Shaharuddin’s placement in the division is considered commensurate with his expertise, enabling him to contribute directly to the management of more complex and high-profile appellate cases.

Mohd Dusuki added that the transfer forms part of established public service practice, which emphasises job rotation, career development and exposure to diverse areas of responsibility.

“Typically, the rotation period for Legal Officers within the Judicial and Legal Service ranges between three and five years.

“Datuk Wan Shaharuddin has served for more than six years at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and this transfer is in line with that practice, while providing him with the opportunity to broaden his experience in the field of trials and appeals,” he said.

Wan Shaharuddin, who joined the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in 2019, has overseen a string of high-profile prosecutions, including the misappropriation of Armada funds case involving Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, the Penang undersea tunnel corruption case involving former Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, and the abuse of power and money laundering charges faced by former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. - February 26, 2026
